Hello afterdawn, I have unfortunately come across a problem. I have bought a SATA USB 2.0 external hard drive enclosure, followed all the steps to put the drive etc. When I connected it i got the chime that plays when something plugs in but my problem is this: -my drive shows up in device manger -it doesn't in my computer and Disk Mangement Also, the drive is not formatted and I am running Win Xp Pro Sp2. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi James (my own name, it is :^) Lemme see; if it's just 'blank' new, unpartitioned and unformatted (just the way Windows likes to get 'em), then it [bold]would[/bold] showup in Device Manager, but it [bold]wouldn't[/bold] in My Computer yet. The answer is in Disk Management - it should appear in the physical device section but be absent from the logical drive section. If you cannot locate and then partition and format it in Disk Management, maybe you need some kind of driver for your device or something...? Anyway recheck Disk Management, let us know, good luck. Regards
argh i just got my drive working because i had to open the enclosure to fix something, but this thing was so cheaply made that i couldn't fully close the enclosure so i had to have some of the wiring sticking out. Some of the pins on the sata cable came loose and now the thing doesn't want to work. Thanks for the soloution but if you could give me direction on where i can find a GOOD sata enclosure in Toronto, please post it
