Hi, I wanted to know if external hard drives are NTFS or FAT32. I'm asking this because I will be using this to back up my PS3 which only uses FAT32 file system. I'm talking about external hard drives that you buy, not the ones you make yourself. After backing up my ps3 so that I can upgrade my hard drive, I'll be using it to store my media. Thanks for the help guys.

doesn't matter; you can format them to any file system you need.

How can you do that? Sorry, quite a newbie with file systems. But for the curiosity factor, which system do external drives normally come with?

Make one yourself, a lot of prebuilt HDDs come with software that prevents them from being used for this purpose. It's an absolute doddle and usually results in a more reliable drive.

I would make one myself, but one I made before always failed on me so I feel safer to buy a properly made one. Also I like built ones, some are small and very portable which is good for a laptop user like me. So anyone have the answer of what file system external hard drives come in?
