Hi I have a Dell XPS Gen. 2 laptop. Intel M 2Ghz, 1 gig ram, 256 video geForce 6800 ultra. I have a 500 gb lacie external harddrive connected to it. It freezes when their is alot of accessing to it, by this i mean if I click on the folders too quickly. I have it connected by a usb 2.0 port, this problem also persisted in my desktop. I have knew drivers installed. It freezes alot more know, like after using winamp (all my audio files are on my harddrive. I have it filled to 390gb's. What is wrong with it, and can anyone help me? Thanks

By freeze I mean the files in use by it freeze and the hard drive restarts.

First thing I'd do is defrage the hdd. That is a lot of space an if it hasn't been done, you are bound to have it fragmented files that'd need sorting. You 390GB's needs defragmenting.
    if that doesn't work...
I would return it if you still have the warranty. That's not normal. Before you know it, your drive will start to click when you access it and what-not and it may burn out.

I've made several external hdd's buy purchasing the enclosure and the hdd seperately...none bigger than 400GB but I've never experienced that at all.

Thanks alot, I'll try defragmentin, but I already tryed to check for errors and it froze at phase 4. Let me see what happens if I defrag. Also, if you wouldn't mind in recommending some good external enclosure, online or in store, or would any do the same Thanks.
