I recently purchased a Western Digital 160 Gb external harddrive, but the softward supplied with it allows only a backup use. I want to use this harddrive just like any other USB memory (such as flashdrives) and be able to access it at will, and NOT simply as a backup. Is there any software out there that will allow me to do this? The software that was supplied with the Western Digital is Dantz Retrospect 6.5. Thanks.

If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you should be able to just plug it in to a USB2 port and the device should then appear as another drive.

I've never had to partition and/or format my iomega external. It has been plug and play since the moment it was assembled. Don't worry about the drive being for "backup only". XP should recognize it and assign a drive letter in a few seconds of plugging the drive in (and maybe turning it on)
