Hey guys, recently my external hdd has started to massive lag my entire computer down, if I play any sound file at all. I am not sure what has caused this problem, seeing as it was working fine before this, but now when the drive is plugged in if I watch any video, or listen to any song, all of a sudden I get massive feedback and everything crawls until I unplug the HDD. Once that happens everything works again. Any ideas? The HDD is a Simpletech 1TB designed by Pininfarina.
it sounds like you have a bad file\files on the drive but im not to sure how you would go about finding the file the only thing i can suggest is reformatting the drive
do a scandisk with the boxes to fix errors checked. that will fix any corrupted files. you can also see if that drive needs to be defragged. If that doesn't work, does the external drive slow down other computers also?
As far as I can tell, it is only my computer. The other computer in my room has no issues with the drive being hooked up to it. I had this problem once before with an old soundcard, however, once I got my new one the problem went away...so I may have to get another if none of this works..Thanks for the effort guys.
Did you try the format? Windows uses lots of wierd index files and such than can slow down a computer simply by being available to that computer. Make sure windows is setup to see hidden/system files, copy all files to a TMP folder elsewhere, then format the drive. Then move back only the files that you actualy want/know what they are.
