I have a 250gb maxtor hard drive, and a mnsscool fanner tech usa case. the case supports up to 400 gb, the problem is my hdd won't show up in disk management, but the safely remove hardware icon does appear on the taskbar and shows that the hard drive is working properly. I tried formatting it with max blast 4 chose ntfs as the format, but the disk drive still doesn't show up. I have set up a usb hdd before, where am I going wrong with this one? and btw it's set to master.

if using xp, have you gone into disk management to partition the drive 1st before formatting??

yeah, that's my problem, it doesn't show up in disk management, so I tried partitioning it, and formating it with max blast but it still doesn't show up in my computer ot disk management.

What about hooking the drive as a secondry internally? See if it shows up then....

the hdd must be fried, I put it in my computer as a slave drive, but it still didn't show up in my computer and in disk management. so then I placed it in my xbox where it was originally installed and it didn't show any hdd information on my smartxx chip screan, the drive worked when I took it out, but it never has been a really good drive it wold take forever for the disk to stop spinning. so I guess I'm going to send it back to maxtor and get a replacement drive. thanks everyone for the help.
