    Would it be faster to run backup games on PS3 from an external 1000 rpm hard disk or an internal 7200 rpm hard disk? If games were stored on the internal hd, would using the backup utility backup those games to an external hd or would they even be recognized? I ask this because if I wanted to transfer my profile between two PS3s (one hacked and offline and the other unhacked and online), it would be irritating to have to backup everything each time. It would be great if there was a way just to transfer the profile. Also, can Sony see what's on your hd when you're online? Would they be able to see stored games? Thanks in advance for any info.

    Internal = faster.
    Your second question doesn't make sense. Please reword.
    You would just need to transfer the profile between the 2 consoles.
    Maybe. Best to have a separate hard drive in each console.

    The Backup Utility does not copy and of the installed game data and will not copy the gamez folder or bdrip folder. This utility only copies your profile, settings and most saved games.

    Not tested it but yeah internal is faster, but probably not by much.

    All I can say is that loading Assassins Creed Brotherhood from external, the game pauses for a few seconds on the first "press start" screen, but after that I have not noticed much difference at all between running it from internal and external.

    My opinion is get a 500gb internal drive then also an external drive. If a game can be played from external I would install on external, and if it cannot then internal. This is because sooner or later you will end up with quite a few games which require a mandatory game data install, as well as game saves etc. And you will run out of space very quickly.

    Also with news of some guys working on a proper media player for the ps3 which supports mkv, I know my hdd will be filled up very quickly.

    Seeing as you can't backup trophies with the backup utility, how do you transfer trophies between hds?

    You have to sync your trophies online, then when you swap hdd's it will resync them from the online server. This is why some people want homebrew and online, for the trophies in games, or cheating.

    Is there any other way to transfer trophies? I want to have one hd offline to use with cfw and another for online to use with ofw.

    Speaking for the PS3 Slim's ...

    The PS3 recognises internal drives of up to 1 TB.

    But if you want the drive to physically fit inside the PS3 case "as is", you can only go up to 750 GB.

    This is because 1 TB drives are fatter (12.5 mm, instead of the standard 9.5 mm for 2.5" drives), so if you go for the 1 TB, you'll either have to trim the plastic on the PS3's case, or locate the HDD external to the PS3 (but still connected via the "internal" SATA cable).
