Today i did a necessary system repair with the XP installation CD. prior to this my external drive was working perfectly, now when i tries to install, i get the unkown device error, no drivers installed and it says it has malfunctioned and stuff. the drive is pretty much brand new, i tried on another computer, it worked fine.

i have a HP Pavilion 724a with a Microstar MS-6577 motherboard which IS USB2.0 compatible, my thumbdrive is workign fine.

i have tried restarting and reinstalling the drive to no success.

i have no idea what the problem is, it usually happens to me after doing the repair installation and im sick of having to do a complete reformat to fix the problem, so if somebody nows how to fix it, PLEASE help.

=> oh and btw if [bold]ddp[/bold] reads this, it is nothing to do with the way i fixed my thumbdrive, i checked and that file is not needed by windows.

could it be i need to find updated drivers for the usb, cause i know the device itself did not come with any drivers cause it is UPNP compatible and i checked the service, it is running fine.

    please somebody help.
