extra slots on motherboard

    i have a ? there are extra slots on my motherboard(not the ram ones)what are they for?

    they could be for a number of things ,sound cards, card readers video cards etc.

    What motherboard are you using? They are more than likely PCI slots. Which are used as aabbccdd said to expand your system with a variety of cards (sound cards, graphic cards, modem, or other expansion cards).

    Video graphics (AGP) VIA-S3 <this must be one of them. i dont know
    what kind of motherboard i have . what will these cards do for me anyway like these -sound cards, graphic cards.
    XGI Tech AGP 8x Volari V3 128MB OEM Video Card with TV-Out & DVI ports - FV3RL03 -what will this do? i found it on a site
    Available slots Two PCI, AGP4x 1.5v i guess i have room for one.

    If your motherboard is AGP 4X new graphics cards will work in there but not brilliantly as there is an AGP 8X and even this is being phased out for PCI-Express (not to be confused with normal PCI) so if you dont want 2 get a new card i wouldnt go spending stupid amounts of money on it because it wont really be worth it unless u got a new motherboard aswell
