I'm posting here, because I need some serious help

I've got no less then 4 Dead Xbox's due to error 16 on softmods (with no Eeproms), I tried the hotswap more times then I choose to admit, to no luck.

I broke down and purchased a second hand pre-modded xbox in the hopes that I could use it to restore the dead Xbox's I have kicking around (hope to use them as Media Centers)

Unfortunatly I know nothing of the modchip in my New (to me) Xbox, the only thing I know is there is a series of lights and switches on it, 1 that has chip on and off, one that switches banks and 1 that appears to switch the LED's

    I've tried the following:

    Glossary:
    CB - Chipped Xbox
    SB - Softmodded Xbox

I used a Molex Y cable to connect the power from the CB to both hard drives

Powered the CB with it's hard drive in, booting to Slayers 2.6, moved IDE ribbon from the CB drive to the SB drive, use unlock on slayers to unlock and then restore RETAIL xbox software, relock drive. Drive does not boot in SB xbox. (gives error 16 or 21)

I've tried unlocking the SB drive in the CB with Slayers, then switching IDE ribbons to the PC and using the Xbox Linux HD restore CD, but it doesn't seem to work (I will keep trying this)

I've also tried cursing quite loudly, but that doesn't appear to be working either...

So what I need to know is this:

is this possible? I don't think I Can move the Chip from box to box (I bought a pre-modded because I cannot solder and suck at things of that nature.

Also on an advanced note, I hope to be able to use this Chipped Xbox to rebuilt/restore larger hard drives for use in the now Dead Softmodded Xboxes and distribute them to my family.

Any assistance/guidance/guides you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    thank you,

well, the hd's are motherboard specific, and if I can remember correctly error code 16 is dashboard problem, if you have a eeprom backup the rebuild the hd with images of the C:/ and E:/ partitions from you hardmodded box.

I didn't do the softmod, someone else did, but since My Softmod is still working, people dropped them on me to see if I could fix em,

I can't, or so it seems.

Unfortunatly I do not have the Eeproms, I had hoped that the once Chipped Xbox would let me fix the others, but it is not seeming this way to me. :(

    distressing.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

try to make an xbox boot disc, liek the "auto installer deluxe"(google it) and see if you can boot from the disc to restore the dashboard files.

When I try to boot the AID (2.0 and 3.0) the words AID 2.0 or 3.0 appear below the Xbox Logo on boot, but it never makes it to the menu.

booting the HD that came in the premodded allows the AID to boot :(

well give it some time to initialize, or hotswap hd's after you get the AID booted on the premodded, then fix everything from there, I don't really liek to hotswap cuz there is always a big chance you could really injure yourself and you hardware.

    yes, many time,

the system would just return "error 16"

Depressing... I had hoped the modchip would help me fix all these dead boxes

Unplug the DVD-ROM on the error 16 Xboxs. Instead of an error 16, you'll get an error 13, and you should be able to hot swap with the modded Xbox and repair the failed soft mod installations.

any chance you can post up instructions on what I should do exactly?

    that would be most helpful,

    I assume:

Boot chipped box and Slayers install disc
Boot Softmodded box without CDrom (Error 13) (I hope)
Remove IDE ribbon from harddrive in Sofmodded box, and connect to the Chipped box

Run the format and restore retail hard drive from slayers installer

remove IDE ribbon from harddrive and plug in the IDE from the Softmodded Xbox

    Shutdown and reboot Softmodded Xbox

    Xbox should now be RETAIL

    correct?

    That's basically it.

Oh, and I meant to say error 11 (no DVD drive connected), not error 13.

Here's the original post I got that info from.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/335995/2009738

To do the hot swap with two Xbox consoles, follow this hot swap guide and replace the PC with the chipped Xbox.

EDIT: If you read the rest of the topic, you'll notice that a lot of them are getting error 12 instead. I assume it's because they're unplugging the DVD drive while the Xbox is on, rather than prior to boot.
