    I am trying to burn my first dvd using DVD shrink 3.1 and when I first put in my DVD and hit 'Open disk' I get this error,

    DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
    Failed to read drive "D:\"
    Copy Protection Error - The read failed because the sectore is encrypted.

    This has happened with 4 different DVD's now. Any ideas guys?

    @Klang Welcome to AD.
    The latest version of shrink is here:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
    and it is version 3.2.0.15 try that first. If that doesn't work, try running AnyDVD in the background. AnyDVD has a free trial period, and it is a great program that removes copy protections automatically when a protected disc is inserted in the drive. DVD43 is a free program that works like AnyDVD, but DVD43 isn't updated to handle some of the latest encryptions.
    You can also extract your movie to HD using DVD Decrypter also free and also here under the software tab. Instead of using the open disc button in shrink, you would use the open files button.
    bbmayo has some great guides:
    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html
    and so does scubapete
    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide3.html
    Good luck, and good reading..:)
