Maybe this problem has already been discussed, but don't have the patients to go thru 278 pages. Every now and then, I get the following error when DVD Shrink is analysing a disk; 'DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to read "F:\" Data error (cyclic redundancy check) ??? I have trusty old DVD region and CSS Free running in the background and in the analysing window, it shows the Decryption status: as 'Not Encrypted' Any suggestions
Well, it just happened again, this time with a brand new disk, 'FlightPlan'. Disk looks clean, went and washed it anyway. Same error in both drives
You're getting that error because of an ecryption issue. If you don't have anydvd you can easily backup this movie for free, just follw the instruction below. All you need to backup flightplan is: 1)DVDshrink 2)DVD decrypter 3)vobblanker 4)your favorite burning utility/application Rip the DVD files to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter. Here is a guide: http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvd-decrypter.php Get vobblanker here..no installation required for this app http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm Create a folder on your desktop and call it "flight_plan", store the files ripped with DVD Decrypter there. Once done there should be a bunch of files created by DVD Decrypter inside the flight_plan folder (.VOB, .ifo, .bup video files). Close DVD Decrypter. Create another folder on you desktop and call it "temporary". Now run vobBlanker and leave the settings as they are (you need to do this because there are still some bad cells in the files that cause the problem with shrink). For input Folder: browse to the flight_plan folder on your desktop, highlight the VIDEO_TS.IFO file and press ok (path looks like this: c:\flight_plan\VIDEO_TS.IFO). For output folder, browse to the temporary folder you created and press ok (path looks like this: c:\temporary) Press the Process button and wait for VobBlanker to finish. Once VobBlanker is done, the "temporary" folder is all you care about and can delete the flight_plan folder on your desktop. The "temporary" folder contains the corrected video files that shrink will use. Create another folder on you desktop and call "flight_plan_fixed", rename the "temporary" folder to VIDEO_TS and put this folder into the flight_plan_fixed folder you created. Run DVDshrink and choose open files and browse to: flight_plan_fixed\VIDEO_TS, highlight the video_ts folder and click open. Shrink should have no problem with opening the files, at this point you can use shrink as you normally would, I suggest you re-author to get the main movie only. Here is a guide on how to re-author: http://www.jlathamsite.com/dvd/DVDShrink3.htm
Okay Johnl123, was doing fine then this happened. I/O error! Decrypter worked perfectly for me, but there is an alternative. Fist make sure the disk is clean. Instead of decrypter use DVDFab decrypter(it's free), it's a whole movie ripper and a very good one at that. Get it here version 2.9.7.0. http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm It's very simple to use, but if you would like a guide, here it is. http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvdfab_decrypter.php Just substitute DVDFab for decrypter in the instructions.
@rowhard Try replacing decrypter with dvdfab decrypter (updated yesterday. A ripper like decrypter. That may do the trick. Download it here: http://dvdidle.com/free.htm Then process the files thru shrink - vobblanker may not be needed. If fab decrypter can't rip it you may need to exchange it for a new one.
Yes, I have DVD Fab. Stayed away fro it in the past because it would take hours for it to complete the task. (and yes, I have a fast computer) ANyway, will give it a try. Will use the same steps that you described earlier. Will do it now and hope it is done by morning. Thanks again everybody for your help and support.
@rowhard Make sure your using the latest one - it was just updated yesterday to 2.9.7.0. So the speed problem should be fixed.
Make sure you uninstall what ever version you have currently on your system and install the current version 2.9.7.0.
Eureka. New DVDFab, much faster and it works. Thanks again everyone for your help and knowledge of this crap.
Glad we could help. Use this method for all those difficult flicks and you should be ok, best of all it free.
Thanks again Johnl123. I like the free part the best. I use DVD Cloner to burn it, has always worked fine. I had a similar problem with the new War of the Worlds. Just might pull it off of the shelf and try again before the kids destory it.
Haven't done this one yet, but if it gives shrink trouble, the trio should see you thru. DVDFab/dvd decrypter VobBlanker DVDshrink Good luck.
