So basically I ended up downloading a fake video codec. I know this because I ended up with a "Smart antivirus 2009" shortcut on my desktop -.-. http://www.spywareremove.com/removeSmartAntivirus2009.html Wen't here and more or less followed the instructions to remove the spyware. I included a link because it verifies that I downloaded a fake codec "Smart Antivirus 2009 may install in your computer system by a Trojan Zlob found on a fake video codec installation". After removing the spyware playback on some of my xvid encoded movies was terrible, upside-down, green screens, etc. So I removed all my codecs by the usual means add/remove programs and uninstallers then installed them once again. I'm still having playback problems so if anyone could tell me how I would go about thoroughly removing all my codecs and starting fresh, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I don't have any restore points. Well, I attempted to see codec info on some of my movies using gspot and it gave me 6 errors. Warning: DirectShow crashed while GSpot was attempting to obtain information about a codec. This is usually due to damaged, misconfigured, conflicting, or poorly written codec drivers. It is possible, perhaps even likely, that other media players will crash when they attempt to play this file as well, as most of them will also use DirectShow. GSpot was able to intercept the crash, and has attempted to identify the codec or filter involved; uninstalling or reinstalling this codec or filter may solve the problem. The codec was tentatively identified as: Unknown video codec #1 This is the last error message, and it still gives it to me every time. The rest looked the same, except they had file paths. C:\Windows\System32\imaadp32.acm C:\Windows\System32\l3codeca.acm C:\Windows\System32\l3codecp.acm C:\Windows\System32\msadp32.acm C:\Windows\System32\msg711.acm C:\Windows\System32\msgsm32.acm I tried to delete them but they failed, tried in safe mode and they still failed. I used the registry to delete everything I could find about them and reinstalled all my codecs. I really dobt it was a good idea but it diden't change a thing so I don't know I still can't figure out why I'm having codec problems.
