I've seen several interesting quotes in signatures etc and I thought that we could compile them in a single thread as well as add others. It doesn't matter what it's about. Include any quote BUT please try to state the author/authoress if you can. I'll start with this one:

'Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life'- Terry Pratchett

I was contemplating on updating the quote in my sig.

I may change it into a more philosophical quote like:

"Those that don't know, teach, those that can't teach, teach gym"

"Freedom of the press belongs to those who own the press"

Here's another I came across but I don't know the source:

"Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the
    other person to die."

    @Saugmon
Philosophical huh?... You never cease to crack me up, lol.

I do believe that we are indebted to you for coining the the mission statement/motto/mantra of AD. It's a great one.

re AD signatures/quotes i adapted ddp's 'teach & learn' to tweak & burn, but as a lot of logfile posts rarely get followed up by original posters (i must scare 'em off lol) i rarely use it..

another one i used on a thread was bleach & perm

    Bleach & perm!,lol
I came across a sig on AD but I can't seem to recall the name of the individual. There is a picture with 'Chopper' in the sig and the quote is as follows:
'I hate going to weddings because the old dears would poke me and say you're next, they all stopped after I did the same at funerals.' Thought that it was funny.

I know that this is a sad moment for you, me and many of George's fans, but try not to say anything inflammatory, please. I believe that he was one of the legends of football. I'll venture to say that he's Ireland's finest even though I have more experience at watching Norman Whiteside, who I used to idolize since he also played for Manchester United which is one of my favourite English League Teams). Don't be surprised if there is a deluge of responses as to who is the greatest whether Pele, Zico, Maradona, Platini, Rossi, Ruud Gullit, etc. To each their own so let's not start a war and let's try to stay on topic folks.

To everyone especially Americans please don't get upset by the previous post. Most people outside of USA refers to 'soccer' as 'football' and what is 'football' in America is probably closest to rugby(even though there are so many differences). It's an emotional time for lots of fans of this sport at this time.

@Jamzbond: I quite enjoy watching American football; I usually catch a least one of the twice weekly, live all night games shown here on UK tv.
I thought neilm247s' reply was tongue in cheek, and replied in the same manner. (I didn't have to search google to know who Vince Lombadi is :)

Hell its their game, and they can call it what they like!
The quote was from one of Georges biography's, read out on UK tv, showing his humour, and attitude to life.

But just to please you; and keep this thread on track. How about the alleged words of another Irish genius.

Oscar Wilde on his death bed...That wallpaper must go; or I will.
