I was intrigued to read (so intrigued I can't remember where) that Sony actually issue software - but I suspect it's firmware - which allows 2X drives to burn at 4X, 1 X at 2X etc. Unfortunately it is only for ide internal drives (I think). I have a Sony DVD RW DW-U50A in my Vaio FR315S laptop and was wondering if anyone knows if this can be tricked. It writes 1X on minus media and 2 to 2.4 on plus media depending on quality and brand. If slower DRUs can be upgraded to 4X, maybe DWs can too? Has anyone heard about or done this? Ol Hectar
