hi, just tried to backup a ps2 game on dvd, using alcohol 120, did everything the tutorial said to do, clicked on start and got a message pop up, this is what it says........

fat32/fat16 file system cannot store files larger than 4.0gb....

but the backup im doing is 4.8gb, is there anything i can do to sort this out.

yeah, you can convert your PC's format to NTSF which doesn't have those limits. But unless you are doing this game on a dual layer disc 4.8GB will not fit on a DVD anyway. Plus unless you have a good chip your PS2 will not play a dual layer back up.

Do a google on FAT32 to NTFS and you will find guides on how to convert it without losing any information. But know that once you switch you can not switch back, not that you would want to.
