My DVD burner, burns DVDs that start to skip around about the point the film starts to get interesting (how does it know?) It plays DVDs and burns CDs fine. This is a new problem, it burned fine in the past. Ive tried using different brands of DVD and burning at x2. was wondering if the lens needs cleaning? thanks
Cleaning the lens is always a good idea. You say you've used different brands, but you don't name them. What program(S) are you using for your backups (ripper, compression, burning)?
Ive used DVDs of many makes including high end makes like sony... these are dvds that have failed on my burner but worked on my friends burner i use shrink and imgburn but have also tried nero with the same result
Check the manufacturers website for you burner for a firmware update, if you need help with this let us know. Sony is one of those brands that are good if you can use them, but not all have good luck with them.
burning to slow can be as bad as burning to fast try 4x to 8x max using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media with the most up to date firmware for you're drive/burner check here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php BTW how old is the burner in question?
Try Verbatim DVDR - or + at 4x or 8x they work better than a lot of other brands some times when your burner is ready to die it will make bad disc I've had brand new burners do the same thing
