1: you are missing the battery
2: what are you trying to point at as you have no arrow pointing at what you want us to identify.

@ddp, you got it right... He does have an arrow and it points to an empty battery socket for cmos.

2nd that about the missing battery being strange on a supposedly new motherboard. talk to the store you bought it from that there is supposed to be a cr2032 battery in that battery socket. also check that your cmos jumper is in default mode not clear mode as it will prevent the board from powering up not the missing battery.

on your picture post near top right corner you have a green block sitting on 2 of 3 pins, that should be your cmos jumper but confirm that location in your motherboard manual.

than that board is not new but used if no manual or battery! what is the make & model# of the motherboard so can get the info on it? should be printed on the motherboard itself not the chips!

Looking at an image you posted on that other forum....

Take a look at you front panel connecters... Your Power Switch is on wrong... I downloaded the manual and had a look...

This is what is in your manual... Put your POWER SW on pins 6 and 8 as shown below...

Its usually the simple things (hopefully!) : )

ok well thanks so far, it powers on and you can hear the fans whir and then after a few seconds it will turn off. sometimes it will show something on the screen sometimes not becuase it turns off too quickly,
    what could be the problem?

is the black cpu heatsink fan assembly bracket on the motherboard as i don't see it in your picture?

Hmmm.... Try reseating the CPU and memory... Take them out and put them back in....
Also check that your CPU cooler power is pluged into the CPU_FAN connector on the board as looking at your manual their is a SYSTEM_FAN connector next to it! If you got these the wrong way round the board may think there is no CPU Cooler and thus shutting off?

I had the same problem of when I plugged my PC with the new board it started to whirl and then shut off... as I remember it was because of the wires attached to the mother board.. I had not done them exactly as it should have been. After many hours of looking on the internet at the mother board finally plugged everything in the right place and it worked... at the moment I can not remember what exactly I had done wrong, but it did have to do with attaching the wires and cables at the right places.. the direction were not exactly easily clear to me.... it was a lot of trying this and that..
