hey guys... I bought a legal version of Fear over the holidays. I installed it everything was going good then when I went to play it I keep getting this "Security Module can not be activated" so I went and made sure all the virtual drives were disabled (checked in My Computer) sure enough, no virtual drives there... anyone know what the problem is? the reason I bought the game in the first place was to play it online... now I can't even run it because Sierra is over protective of their software? this doesn't exactly encurage me to make more purchases. I don't exactly understand why they take the time to do all this bull shit, people always find ways to get around it? but instead when people actually go out and buy their software they tend to make it a nightmare to run? - smart business plan!! anyhow sorry bout ranting, just eager to play my new game.
hi, I do not know the answer to you problem, but i know having virtual drives enabled will NOT affect the game (i know this because I own a legal copy of this game and i have virtual drives). Hope that helps you.......some way.... mike
You have to have the original DVD or CD in the drive for it to be activated. So you cant have it mounted, and if you have any virtual drives make sure you have a program hiding them SR7.stop or something similar. oh and if you have a firewall make sure it has the right permissions. Hope that helps
I have FEAR as well, but haven't encountered this specific error before. I have encountered the License date is not valid yet, error because prior to the install I was looking up dates on the calendar and accidentally set my date back a year before the game was released. So that was a funny 5 minutes trying to figure out WTF was going on. HOWEVER, I might be able to help. Did you happen to install the second patch?(1.02) There have been alot of issues with the second patch causing a whole bunch of errors and compatibility issues. Plus, the second patch really doesn't contain any important fixes or performance benefits. I also heard that if you have GetRight the download manager, something conflicts and it needs to be disabled. You can check this page out, although you seem to have tried most of what's on here: http://support2.vugames.com/fear/answer.aspx?ID=7325 And if all else fails, I believe there's a workaround that prevents this if you make FEAR run in Windows 2000 compatibility.
hey...thanks for responding, but I found the problem.....My computer sucked.....Just got a new computer and works AMAZING......thanks again Mike
