Hi, I'm gonna get a new graphics card, for PC gaming and 3DsMax. Do you thing Geforce 6200 (PCI Express/256MB) is ok? Is it a good choice or a bad choice?
i would go for at least the 6600 but really to do ne good games u should be looking at the 6800 or 7800
What I thought waz, since most games and 3dsMax run smooth even with GeF4 128MB cards, GeF 6200 would be a more economical choice. Any more opinions?
The 6200 uses 256MB DDR and the 6600GT use 128MB of GDDR3 which is faster memory. The 6600GT will put a beatdown on that 6200..
Basic rule of thumb with graphics cards is, the less you pay the less you get! The 6200 is very limited in its' capabilities. Answer me this, what is your budget & what are your system specs? If you are wanting a serious gamers card, then start looking at the 7800 series. Don't forget you need a fast processor & lots of quality RAM, I would recommend at least 1 gig, the more the merrier [bold]It's all down to the size of your wallet![/bold]
I didn't like mine at all after some newer games came out. There are so many better cards for 10-20 dollars more there is really no need. ___edit : I ran mine AGP so I really shouldnt have commented, but that is about 2 year old hardware
I had a look on Newegg for you, looks like you could get a 6800GS for $170, http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Category.asp?Category=38 I prefer Nvidia Chipset cards as Nvidia has better driver support.
Thanx for your concern pulsar, What are PixelPipelines? How their number affect perfomance of the card... Hey, I don't mind spend few more bucks if I can get a good card I can use for a while... So, can you guys fill me in with such things I should consider before buying a card...
As far as I am aware Pixel pipelines are what the information travel through in the card, the more pipelines, the more info is possible. This enables better textures & more realistic effects to be reproduced on the monitor. The more the better. Do a google search, you should get loads more info about it..... I would spend as much as possible, the problem then is you needa fast processor & lots of RAM, otherwise they will become bottlenecks for the card & hinder its' progress.
Thanks man. One more question... With my current geforce card I couldn't play games like "Silent Hill 4" and "Prince of Percia" since it doesn't support hardware PixelShader. So, tell me about such features, that I should consider before buying a card. (Edit) I mean, I don't want to find out that I next time I get a new game I have to throw it into the attic because my card doesn't support some stupid feature... So, a feature check-list would be much appreciated...
With $200 available you will be limited, but you will get a HALF decent card. It will support vertex shaders & all the bits & bobs required to play top end games, albeit at low-medium settings. The thing is, is that, with the games coming out nowadays they are becoming more & more demanding on graphics cards. You should be OK with your CPU & RAM, you simply need to spend as much as you possibly can, do a bit of legwork, read some reviews. If you skimp out, you will regret it. As for which make to get, I really don't know, but I would go with a name that you recognise. If I were looking for a new PCI-Express card I would be looking at a 7800GTX, but that would be $400+. I know it is a lot of money, but the rewards would be reaped.
