I am looking for some advice on converting a EF (.ef) file extension. I want to create a movie dvd from a downloaded 630MB file. I had heard that changing to a .rar extension might work but I thought I would gather some info first. Thanks very much.
Hello mate. Firstly we will assume this 'downloaded' file of yours is a perfectly legal downloadable file OK as the rules strictly forbid any talk of warez or downloaded movies etc for obvious reasons. You do not need to say where the file is from, justy the details of the file and the problem. anyway, assuming the file is legit then I can only advise you as much as I know. I have been encoding video for a long time now and I have to say I have never heard of or seen a file with the extension .ef Even google draws a complete blank on this! Now, are you sure the file has been given the correct extension? Is there any chance that it may have been renamed wrongly? I really don't see how renaming it to a rar file will make any difference if you don't know what it is in the first place. Who told you to do that? Get a hold of the person and ask them for some more info, they obviously have a slight idea about it to offer such advice. If not then I can't think of anything else. Although I suppose trying it wouldn't hurt. If it has been renamed wrongly then it could well turn out to be a rar file but there is no reason why it should specifically be a RAR file that's all. You could try downloading Gspot and see if you can load the file into that. You could also try, just to see if it will make a difference, renaming it to more common movie file extensions and try ech one to see if one works. That is your best bet I would say. So rename it to each of the following and then try to play it in either VLC player or Media player classic, or try to load it into Gspot. .avi .mkv .mpg .mpeg .dat .vob .dsm .wmv .rm .rmvb erm...can't think of any more!! Sorry I couldn't be more help. Please update this thread, whatever happens as I am interested to find out what you discover about this unknown format. Good luck!
