I am using DVD Shrink, and have removed the excess features that I don't want. I have the file size down to 4.35 GB which I thought would fit to DVD. DVD Shrink shows the green bar, which is supposed to mean it will fit to DVD. But when I add the file to Nero, that line at the bottom goes past the blue part and into the red part. I tried to burn it a few times just to see if it would work, but Nero keeps ejecting my DVD and I get a message that the size is too large. Any ideas why I am getting conflicting information from DVD Shrink and Nero? How do I make it fit? Thanks.
Hi. I'm confused. Are you burning with Nero from DVD Shrink by selecting that option in the DVD Shrink Target Output menu or are you outputting a folder of files or an ISO image file and then opening that up and burning with Nero? Are you adding files to NeroVision and creating a menu? Have you tried creating an ISO image file in DVD Shrink and burning with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn? Some versions of Nero seem to be making some mistakes with the file size. Are you using Nero 6 or Nero 7? Best versions seem to be 6.6.0.18 and 7.0.8.2. Always run the appropriate Nero Clean Tool before reinstalling. If you need help, post back. Also keep in mind that compression programs use an algorithm to come up with the estimated final target size and that algorithm is neither exact or foolproof.
I followed this guide: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink31-main.htm I did not make an iso image. When I click on back up, I have a file saved to my harddrive. Then I open Nero 7 demo and click "make your own dvd video". Then I click "add video files". And procede from there. I'm new with all of this, and from reading multiple guides, this one seems to be the most straight forward for beginners. If I am going about this the wrong way, please either let me know what I am doing incorrectly or an easier approach (if there is one). Thanks
If you have shrink, you can use a custom size, say 4300 MB so that you won't have size problems. I'm not sure if nero 7 demo has recode available. If it does, you can use it and it will compress the files to fit in the dvd. You may want to see this http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_copy_dvd_with_dvd_shrink.cfm For newer dvds you may want to try anydvd (just in case you want to invest a little for an excellent product) toghether with shrink.
That approach should work. I suspect the problem is with Nero as the newer version seems to have some issues dealing with file sizes. You don't need Nero at all to make backups of DVDs. It can be accomplished with all free programs. I would recommend downloading the following version of DVD Shrink as well as ImgBurn. Install ImgBurn first and then DVD Shrink. http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download DVD Shrink: http://www.digital-digest.com/software/download.php?sid=423&ssid=0&did=7 After clicking the Backup! button in DVD Shrink, in the [bold]Select backup target:[/bold] menu, choose [bold]ISO Image File and burn with ImgBurn[/bold]. I'm going to also provide some links to some other guides: General: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm To backup DVDs with strong copy protection with free software: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/360110 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154
Go to the edit drop down in shrink, and select preferences. A window will open up, go to the FILE I/O tab. Check off the box to enable burning with nero. Easy as that. The "make dvd video" option is not meant for video ts, or image files. Only avi, mpeg files are used here.
>>> when I open Nero 7 demo and click "make your own dvd video". Wrong place, you're not 'making' anything, you already have the video files they just need to be burned to disc. In Nero Express 6 it asks "What would you like to burn"-> DVD Video files, you then choose the files that Shrink provided.
Thank you all very much for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. I am about to try again. Hopefully with success this time.
