OK..I give up, have looked in forums (sorry if I have missed the answer), tried many different backup programs, different media, although not Verbatim yet (on it's way next), using 2 different NEC drives (nd1100 / nd3500), but I still have the same problem no matter what I do, is my problem just down to media ??.. I can backup any film without any apparent problem and it will even play without a problem on standalone dvd players and pc's player but I only ever get half the film, is it possibly something to do with the second layer of the dvd not being read ? If it is as simple as poor media I have verbatim on the way but could it be something else?...anybody else have this problem? I have backed up many films in the past but this problem seems to have appeared more and more recently until now I don't seem to be able to backup anything more than half of any film! Any help appreciated
[bold] DVD-9 -> DVD+R DL, Double layer to Double layer! (1:1)[/bold] Remove all discs from drives. Open DVD Decrypter. From the 'Mode' menu, select 'ISO' -> 'Read'. Put DVD-9 disc in drive. Take note of the 'Destination' file name. Click the big 'Decrypt' button. Take the DVD-9 disc out of the drive. From the 'Mode' menu, select 'ISO' -> 'Write'. Put a blank double layer disc in your DVD Writer. Click the little folder icon - 'Browse for source file' - and select the MDS file created for you as part of the steps above. Click the big 'Write' button. Finished! Note: If your drive supports booktype / bit setting, remember to tell it to burn DVD+R DL discs as DVDROM. This will make them more compatible with players. The booktype / bit setting utility is accessed by clicking on the little 'book' icon when in ISO Write mode.
thanks for the idea, but I have been trying to copy dvd's to single layer dvd-r using programs such as clonedvd, Xpress/platinum, 1click, dvd cloner, etc etc, have used these before with no problems even with less than brilliant media, but recently started getting copies that only play half the film, maybe I should try using dvd decryptor as ur suggesting.
sorry read you wrong there i thought you meant write dvdr.. ok yes most definalty rip with dvd decrypter on iso read then load to dvd shrink and backup to compress it, you can even grab main movie only if you wish! set dvd shrink after hiting backup button to use dvd decrypter burn engine! to get main movie use re-author mode and drag over the main movie from right to left pane/window...
thanks for the fast response, looks like thats the way I'm gonna go next, any idea why I should suddenly start having problems and why I can only copy half a film ?
hi nar no idea and a first for me here in 3 years! ut may be your settings? but use those 2 apps as most of us here use those!
Thanks a lot Rotary, nice to know I didn't bore ya by asking you an old question as I see so many here do !!! I have spent a few days looking for the answer to this question but not see it anywhere else, I started to think it was some kind of new copy protection that I had never heard of, but it seems to have happened suddenly here. The curiosity has got the better of me now though and I'm determined to find out whats happened even if I use your route and get it right..lol
