    Hi, newbie here :)

I got a problem. My Sanyo Drw1000 is all messed up. Right after a year of purchase, the dvd writer just stopped writing and reading any disc (even normal dvds). Now I have a hand full of unfinalize dvd-r discs that I can't watch (they're very important stuff to me that I can't re-recoded). Seems like my Sanyo model is no longer in any store (except online). Therefore I can't just buy it, finalize my discs and return the unit. What should I do? How can I get my recorded stuff back?

-I don't have PC dvd recorder at the moment, but could they even read these unfinalize discs?

-I kept reading about isobuster. What is that?

BTW, don't ever buy a sanyo dvd recorder, apparently they don't even make spare part.

Any help will be great, thanks.

    Hello.

I have the same machine and it has never worked quite right. $400 wasted. I recently recorded a DVD-R (TDK) and that worked well enough, but the player has problems with almost every DVD I get from Netflix. Meanwhile, my old RCA that I got back in 1998 or 1999 works great for those discs, as does my Playstation 2 "slim".

I tried applying the firmware update from Sanyo's web site. The update loaded fine, but has not helped with regard to getting the drive to read discs. Compressed air has not helped, either. Next, I may get take the drive itself apart and try to clean the lens. My location has more than its share of dust.

One thing I did notice about the machine is that the drive itself appears to be a standard ATAPI drive. I do not know if it runs any custom code or not, but if the content you have is critical, you might consider replacing the drive. If an exact replacement cannot be obtained, perhaps a similar model would work. DVD burners are so cheap now that you could buy a replacement ands then install it in a PC or give it away as a gift if it didn't work out.

Has anyone else here had any experience with performing such "surgeries"?
