In December I prepared a series of music CDs using wav files my wife had recorded. There were a series of about 13 songs on the disk. I found out that most of the disks would not play on our standard Sony CD player. I assumed that somehow or other the disks may not have been finalized and accordingly may not have been recognized by our CD player. Question: What are the key settings in the the Nero burning Rom or in Nero Express to assure that the CD will be playable on conventional CD players. Second (but related) question: If I have some of these disks and they have not been finalized, is there a way to close or finalize them or should I just dispose of them?
@BobDaun Looks like no one wants to take a shot at this so i will .. 1)If you have nero info tool , you can check to see if disc is finalized Insert disc in drive , open nero info tool , click on disc tab , in the " disc status " if finalized will state " closed and finalized " 2) When using Nero Burning Rom in the burn compilation box , make sure " Finalize Cd box is checked off 3) In Nero Express , with the "selected files box" open (where you add your audio tracks ) click on " Next" button , you should then be at the " Final burn Settings " box , click on the " More" tab at the bottom. Make sure Finalize disc box is checked ( should be automatically greyed out ) . 4) If disc was not finalized I would suggest you copy all the data on the CD to the PC, make a new compilation and re-burn it including finalizing the CD. Otherwise, you have a coaster. Will play on computer , but not on a standalone or car cd player .. Hope this helps
Kissparo1 Thanks for your reply. I tried your suggestions and they were right on the mark. I know quite a bit of time has gone by but I was playing around with one of the "coasters" this afternoon. I checked my Nero program and found that I did have the Nero Info tool and checked the "coaster". As we both suspected, it was not finalized. Just out of curiosity and thinking that if it was not finalized I should be able to add something to it. I recorded a couple of seconds of silence and stored it on my hard drive. I then put one of the "coasters" in my writer and copied the new file to it making sure that the disk was set for finalize. Everything went well. Looking at the disk contents showed the original 13 files plus one called blank.wav. However, when I went to play this in or regular CD player, the player showed only track and then did not play any of the files (the same as before adding the blank wav file and finalizing the disk. This was more just to satisfy my curiosity than having a concern about the actual disk contents.
