A friend decided to buy a computer from the local store (HP Pavillion A1250N) instead of letting me build it, that ignorant bast%@d. It runs great, AMDx2 3800 with room for pci-e, right out of the box, anyway it has a DL DVD±RW lightscribe marked HP 740b and I can't find info on it anywhere I google, yahoo or the such. I want to help flash it, hopefully booktype, but can't find info. Any help please???
Well, I know that the HP740 series weiters all use the Matsushita chipset which is Panasonic/JVC stuff .. If I can dig up any help, I'll repost
Thank you very much. Just when I think I know what's going on and how to deal with problems like this, reality comes to proove me wrong.
Where are you seeing 740B? if its in device manager its likely a 740i which is a rebadged lg 4166B. There are no fw updates available for this drive as of yet. I own the same drive and its a pos burns fine but the LS feature doesnt recognize and LS dvd's that ive tried so far. Ive tried verbatim and HP, ive seen several complaints about this same issue. Hopefully someone at HP is listening and will release a fw update to correct this issue.
740b is in Device Manager, also, while using DVD Decrypter I used the firmware update feature and verified that fact and while it gave the current firmware version, there were no signs of a 740b let alone upgrades. It has burned DVD fine at 8x (ty's and sony discs) but lack of information on it has me worried. He hasn't used the LS yet, waiting for me to see if burner will booktype those +R scribes. Thanks for the input.
