I have a hp dvd +-rw 640i with firmware version-cs30. I updated to firmware version to-es04 and it now shows my writer as a cd/dvd rom in "my computer". Will this affect my writing or performance or any thing else? If so how can I change it back?
makes sense~ i had this identical problem on my sony dru-710a, when i went from BY02 to BYX3, my computer auto. identified it as a cd-rom drive as well, but, it had absolutely NO effect on my dvd burning, i am hoping for you it is the same way w/ your HP. as grandpa said, only way to test it is to try~...mine didn't affect writing OR performance, no real need to change it back..if it works, stick with it~ if it doesn't then, simply flash the drive with the older one you had.
@kivory, the 710A "BYX4" suppose to have better writing performance and reliability improvements. And when you double click on "my computer" on desktop, it says that it's a "dvd-rw" drive. Right click on the drive, then "properties", then "hardware" and it should still be "SONY DVD RW DRU-710A DVD/CD-ROM Drive."
Hi there, If you are on Windows XP, try deleting your IDE Channels, and let XP redetect them. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DMA.html It has helped for several people !
yes, i know the firmware for my sony is BYX4, i flashed it on the same day it came out~ i was just answering the 1st question about it changing from before~ while i do not have this problem hardcore1 spoke of, i was telling him what happened with my older firmware and the results of it. but thanks~
