    My question is this.
I downloaded the hackware to my ilo dvdrhd04 to get the 3hr mode and copy all feature and it works fine. Can I use any
future firmware up dates. Will I lose these features and not be able to get them back? I still have the hackware disk.
    THANKS

    Hi -

Unless the future (factory) updates include the features you added with hacked firmware, then flashing will update to whatever version you input then. You would lose the added features. Future updates of hacked firmware may or may not include the features you want. Choose wisely.

Hi Robt41, the most recent firmware version is the 201 (August 2005).
The HD04 is a discontinued model and doubt very much that their will be any future firmware update. I'm satisfied with the 201 and I would not chance any other updates as it might contains a feature that does not allow you to apply Mr. Wizard's tool to it. Liteon has tried that with the 5045.

Thanks for the comeback rulisky and crazcanuk. I think I'l leave a good thing alone. The risk of losing those features isn't worth it.
I have one more question. I never cleaned the lazer disc lenses.
Are the cleaner discs they sell in the stores any good?
    THANKS

If you are not experiencing any problems, don't bother yet. The store bought DVD lens cleaners will work for a while, then you would need to open up the top of the drive and clean the lens manually with a Q-Tip and a cleanser (alcohol, Windex). Eventually the drive will die, it can easily be replaced with a Liteon PC burner. Do some searching, lots of info on these two topics.
