I have a lite-on sohw 832s. When I go to update, it says error, this is only for lite-on sohw 832s and drives found it lists as lite-on sohw 832s vpdd ??? I want to be able to booktype and it won't let me with this drive. I have an external sony drx-710ul and it appears to let me change booktype but then I don't know if I succeeded or not. Also what is the sony really, lite-on??? Do I have to open it up to look? Thanks in advance.
your sony drx-710ul is identical to MINE, the Sony dru-710a (internal) and it is actually a rebadged Liteon SOHW 1633S~ i also have an actual OEM Liteon SOHW-1633S, they are identical hardware, only thing different is that i paid about DOUBLE for my S-O-N-Y bezel, than i did for my Liteon you can check the booktype to make sure it worked by using a dvd identifier or dvdinfopro to check AFTER the burn...if it says "booktype: dvd-rom" then it worked, if it says "booktype: dvd+r" then obviously, it didn't work~ what prog. u using btw to booktype your media? are u using Liteon's booktyping/bitsetting utility? or nero? or dvd decrypter? u can actually do it with all three i mentioned above..it's ur choice really~ docTY~
I've used lite-on utility and DDD. The last atempt, error unable to unlock or exclusive access or something. The only way it would proceed was ignore. For my 832s. I was able to update firmware on hp's site to the next version but still old,VPDE. It's crazy it says only for lite-on 832s and below that drive found lite-on 832s vpde, when I try the latest version. I would like to get past this and not look back.
I am finally booktyping but only on external dr710a. Need to update firmware on the 832s and not giving up yet. Anyone booktyping with a 832s lite-on?
I'm not familiar with those drives, but here's a site that can give you a cross reference of the sony drives that are re-badged liteys. It also has the firmware updates. Maybe it'll help? http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html
I also have a SOHW-832S, and it will not write DVD's. It writes/reads CD's and reads DVD's. I have only tried DVD+ diskd. I have re-installed the driver with no result, and would have liked to update the firmware, but the lite-on program detects th VPDD suffix and will not proceed. Compaq have suggested a non-destructive recovery, but I will certainly lose some stuff, so I am hanging back. Any ideas? FrankJo
