Hello I am a newbie and in need of a little help and assistance. I have recently purchased a Starview3 The Box Super. Sadly I am experiencing difficulty in updating the machine. As far as I can ascertain the box is in working order. I have connected it to my TV via my incoming cable (Virgin) and have scanned for channels. The box has detected 200+ channels many of which are scrambled. The rest I can view as per normal TV. I am aware that I have to update the (Firmware?) but alas this is where my problems begin. When I connect the box to my computer via a null modem cable DB9F to DB9F it appears that my computer cannot see the box. For example I do not get the usual, found new hardware/wizard messages. I have connected the box via the nine pin socket on the back of the computer and via a USB 2.0 serial adapter both to no avail. (The software for the USB adapter has been downloaded and the programme is in All Programs) The box is connected to power has booted and I can switch from Standby to On. After that nothing! Could somebody please assist me in my plight? Kind regards. Sychman.
Hi I also have recently purchased Starview3 super. Tried 1570, doesnt do anything. Tried loading firmware as desctibed on here withe necessary cable still no joy. Please somebody help/guide me what to do.
Davee, your box hasn,t been flashed yet by the sound of things, did you try this idiot proof guide? take your time its easy enough! http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/663923
It could be the RS232 TO USB conversion cable that is the problem as I have seen this happen were it looks like it is connecting to a piece of harware but is not thus you cannot update the firware properly... this is what i suggest . Connect up all devices (starview , pc etc etc ) Plug in the USB device to your PC Go to START/CONTROL PANEL/ SYSTEM / HARDWARE /DEVICE MANAGER/Ports (COM/LPT) From the list provided identify which is the USB that is connected to your starview , (by plugging in/out the USB you should see the list refresh) When you identify the COM in question then right click on it and go to "properities" then in the advanced section you will be able to change the "com number" ie (COM1 COM 2 etc) of this device to match a Com number in the Software needed to flash your Starview. **Take a note of what COM numbers you have changed (ie) COM7 changed to COM1 etc as it may be needed to change back if it caused problems with other devices on our P.C This will then ensure that the USB-SERIAL(p.c) is communicating properly with your Starview and you should then be able to Flash and resolve your on going problem. Hope this helps. M.
