flip218, how can i be sure that i NEED to update? i can burn dvd movies with out ANY probs. what so ever. also what is the brand that i have & how good is it? if it is working fine should i still update? dont laugh but it seems hard to do the update [for me any way] & IF i read it wright i can mess up my drives if i dont do it wright Caution Do not flash with incorrect or unapproved firmware. Doing so may destroy the DVD drive or reduce its functionally! what does do not flash mean?
If your not using v1.92 your using an older version. If you have Nero, you can use Nero's info tool to check. NECDVD+RWND-2100AD ... a NEC 2100 is the drive you have. If it ain't broke don't fix it. If everything is fine, I would leave it alone. Firmware helps your dirve be more compatible with the different media. That firmware is what is recommended from the NEC website. There is alot of hack firmware out there, which can ruin drives ... again, the one I gave is recommended from the NEC website. Also, please don't send me a PM asking to reply. I just got home, and we are all here on our free time ... have some patience.
You can download DVD Identifier from : http://dvdidentifier.cdfreaks.com/ which will tell you which firmware you have for your burner. CJC
i have dvd identifier, when i clik on the icon this is what shows up . do i need to do somthing else? [04:20:56] DVD Identifier V3.4 [04:20:56] Initializing ASPI/SPTI Drive Interface [04:20:56] SPTI Drive Interface Successfully Initialized [04:20:56] 1 Supported Drive Found (Out Of 2 Available Drives) [04:20:56] Manufacturer Database [03-JUL-04@101$62] Loaded From File : (@101$62) Entries Found [04:20:56] Internet Version Check Postponed Since Last Check Happened Less Than 1 Hour Ago also what does 1 supported drive found [out of 2 available] mean? does it mean 1 of my drives is messed up?
Its saying that you have 2 drives, one of which is a DVD Burner... If you read up the top there will be a box that has D: BURNER NAME eg mine has E: Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-108 [FW 1.10] Which means my Pioneer 108 has Firmware Version 1.10 Whats yours say ? CJC
it says, [E:]_NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD [FW 103D] i also downloaded nero, it says firmware version 0015 down below that it has supported read features almost all of them are checked below that it has supported write features & NONE ARE CHECKED whats up with that
i tried doing the up date & it said in a pop up target nec dvd 2100 is not found. then i got to reading on there site & it said this The NEC firmware upgrade below should not be used with external USB / FireWire drives or with OEM drives from HP, DELL, Medion, Fujitsu, Siemens, Gateway, or any other OEM manufacturer. If you wish to update the firmware on an OEM drive, please contact the dealer or manufacturer. well i have a 4600i dell, so does this mean that i have to pay for the update or what?
