I have LG GSA-4160B burner that i am gonna trade in for a next one because it's been giving too much problems even when using good discs(Taiyo Yuden) i still get burned failed, and this is at 4X,it doesn't even read 16X Dvds, so i am gonna trade in for a next LG or another brand if available. I think the problem started happening when i installed the firmware, not a 100% sure though, so i am wondering if its just best to not install the firmware, and just use the burner as it is. I would appreciate if persons who have experience & knowledge about DVD writers, give me like the best Writers i can choose from and buy that's on the market, all repies are appreciated.
Hi. Sorry to hear about your drive. As for firmware, it is important to keep it updated as, incase you didn't know, firmware updates your drive to read the latest disk codes. Problems can occur if you say use the wrong frimware or are running other things whilst flashing etc etc. As for a new drive, I use LG and haven't had any major problems with it at all. It is an LG GSA4120B, not sure on price as it came with my PC Lots of good lG drives out there. Other makes to consider are BenQ and Pioneer. Good sites to buy from are http://newegg.com (if you are US) and http://misco.co.uk if in UK.
I have an LG 4163B I bought at Newegg and it's double-layer burn capability failed after about a dozen burns rendering it a single-layer burner. That and other of their products is why I'm not a big fan of LG (or Newegg), though some people swear by 'em. Benq is probably the favorite but they are no longer being made, at least not the tried-and-true 1650/1655 burners. Try to find one if you can but be sure you're buying the burner, not the DVD-ROM drive with the same number. The Pioneer 111 is good, as is the NEC 3550a, and the newer Lite-Ons. If you burn DVD+R single-layer, be aware that the NEC amd the Pioneer will need a hacked firmware to bitset +Rs to appear as DVD-ROMs, and I think the Benq uses an included utility to set it to bitset. None of this is an issue if you burn DVD-Rs or +R Double Layers.
Sorry to hear about your experiences with both Newegg and Lg. I, by no means, swear by either of them, but I haven't had problems with mine so... And when I have bought from Misco it has been fine. (I am in Uk and not bought from Newegg.) Anyway The two burners Dunker reccommended are great. I would go for the Pioneer personally. As for BenQ, Bummer, I didn't know if that was true lol EDIT: Tigerdirect is Misco's sister site i think
Well Ripper i got a LG H20n, u know anything about that drive and do u recommend that i update to latest firmware before i start burning, thanks, and which discs do u use mostly.
I use 16x Verbatim Dvd +r's which code as Taiyo Yuden, very good disks. http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=1523 - what I have 50 of As for your drive, not heard much about it but the latest firmware is 1.01 - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=16 I think 1.01 is the first firmware though, which your drive should have, but you can use Nero Info tool (found on Afterdawn) to check.
You didn't check rpc1.org. See http://tdb.rpc1.org/#DW1620 Current is B7W9. This is a beta though; do a search at rpc1 is you want find a known-stable version.
hey guys. How do i go about in finding a firmware update for my internal DVD burner or to see if there is actually an update. It's an NEC. I've noticed that's it's been kinda making coasters these days thanks.
ok i figured out what my NEC dvd writer is. Its an ND-6650a. Now can someone tell me if there is an update for this and where can i find it thanks.
thanks guys i downloaded the new update. Now for the bitsetting firmware.I just download the 2.62 file??
They tell you on the left side under "How to flash" You need binflash. Then your bitsetting headaches should be over.
