Was thinking about buying a computer prebuilt but, i don't have the extra money to do that, nor is anyone giving me what i want to, was wondering what you guys thought about this setup, and what am i missing as i know the main components but am i missing anything small. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119137 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128086 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139001 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 (is this enough to keep system cool?) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007 (do i need this stuff, i saw someone else had it, is this necessary, not sure really what it even is haha.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116036 (saw on another post that this was easily overclocked to 3.0ghz, is this true or should i go with a better cpu) anyone thats about it, what am i missing beside a monitor keyboard, mouse, and speakers. thanks guys Mitch
unless you need the extra usb or sata ports you can save $40 on the mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059 everything else looks great. the e2160 will get 3.0ghz easily and the cooler will work great. you will need the arctic silver for the new heat sink. what it does is help transfer heat from the cpu to the heatsink. so it just helps keep the cpu cool. your not missing anything that i can see.
thanks alot that sounds good to me, i guess i dont need the extra so the couple extra bucks will help me, guess i just need to get a dvd drive, and an OS, that should run me another 150bucks, crap. Mitch
get this dvd drive. it is great, i have used it in a couple of builds. it can burn just about everything. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151153 and for the os, what are you going to use?
i guess windows xp, its what im used to and ive heard that vista is a resource hog from multiple sources so...
home is $90 at newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116056 compare prices here http://www.nextag.com/windows-xp/search-html
The Corsair 520W is bit of an overkill but it should last you a while with future upgrades. The Corsair 450W would be sufficient. With he CPU cooler, do you really need it? It makes the computer a but less quieter but the temperature of the CPU will stay the same or maybe a bit cooler. The stock Intel HSF is good for that CPU. Other than that the build is fine. Nice case BTW!
82wabbit: Superb parts list, top to tail, but I'm not much of an EVGA graphics card fan any more, there have been a larger than usual number of failed ones in the past few months. I suggest using an XFX or BFG instead. DaleC: He will need that CPU cooler to reliably overclock his CPu to 3Ghz+.
placed the order, just jumped down a power supply to the 450 instead of the 520. we will see how i do building the thing now, any tips on places to go to help me, the most ive ever done is added ram to a computer, well i replaced a video card too. Mitch
Well the E2160 could go to 3.4 on stock without getting to hot. Get an aftermarket cooler just to be safe anyways.
mine is clocked at 3.1 on stock cooling and it gets up to 71c. stock cooling is definately not something you would want to use for to long. that is why i ordered a zaleman 9700.
i stayed with corsair power supply just went to 450w instead. and for cooling i went with this, will this beable to withstand the overclocking to 3.0 or greater http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 thanks for the hlep guys youa re great Mitch
also wanted to add this real quick. what about static electricity, do i need to buy anything special or is working on a wood floor in my rubber soled shoes good enough? what kind of table should i use, i have a plastic one is that a bad idea? i was reading online about static electricity and besides getting a braclet there were no other free tips, any free tips anyone can offer. thanks
DaleC: rubbish, the 2160s can go high on stock cooling but not that high, 3Ghz is the absolute highest I would take one without worrying about the temps. 82vwabbit: That's the standard 'overclocking' CPU cooler, it could handle my E4300@3Ghz+ with ease, so a 2160 shouldn't be a problem. Good call on the PSU by the way. Static electricity, whilst not as big a problem as everyone makes out is a precaution you should still take. Generally just heed the obvious, don't wear the sort of clothing that makes static sparks everywhere when you take it off, don't stroke the cat whilst you're PC building and don't shuffle along a carpeted floor. Before you begin, touch the unpainted metal part of a radiator pipe to ground yourself, and do this to any tools you will use as well. Static grounding bracelets are only really useful if you're near the said unpainted radiator pipe, there's no point grounding yourself to the case because the case in itself isn't grounded unless you have the PSU attached and connected to the mains, which is usually not the first stage of a PC build.
ok i dont have any radiator pipes in the house, but i probably could use a water faucet though i think we have all the cheap plastic ones, but ill take some minor precautions like you said, watch what i wear and get rid of the cats while im building it. thanks alot for the info. Mitch
Yes, it's not an absolute, I've often modified my PC without having done it, but that doesn't mean that it's good practice.
i was just looking at this, is this video card compatible with this motherboard? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059
