This has never happened before in over a year of happy usage of my DVD±RW drive. I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem could be. I was trying to burn a 700 Meg .AVI file onto a CDR (NOTE, not onto a DVD). I could have burnt it at 32x but I chose to burn at 16x as I always do, as I find they are more likely to work afterwards. I MUST ADD THAT I HAVE JUST TRIED ANOTHER CDR FROM THE SAME PACK AND THIS TIME IT HAS WORKED. So hopefully it is just a one-off. But the inquisitive side of me is still curious as to why it happened in the first place... in case it happens again.... Anyway, here's the relevant bit of my logfile. I've removed my serial number.... ====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ====== TristanWhite 1A20-THE_REST_OF_MY_SERIAL_NUMBER_WENT_HERE Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.68, size=160016 bytes, created 23/07/2004 00:33:44 Nero version: 6.3.1.26 (Nero Express) Recorder: <_NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A> Version: 1.01 - HA 0 TA 1 - 6.3.1.26 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : via Inquiry data (1) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI Connected to MMC as unknown drive with class-nr : 1 Drive is autodetected - recorder class: Std. It has to do with that ^ ^ ^ You have Nero and InCD installed together. They will comflict sometimes, hence the on and off results. What you can do is save your serial number, run these clean tools: Use this tool to uninstall Nero: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/General_CleanTool.html Use this tool after the first one: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_6_CleanTool.html Then update this, with your serial, when prompted... Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Ner....0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe Get back to me.
you drive has old firmware (1.01).... download and install the newer firmware of 1.04 here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php just type in your model # which is ND-3540A you are running buggy version of Nero 6 .... update to the stable version of Nero 6.6.0.18, here's how: 1. save your serial # 2. uninstall Nero 3. use the Nero 6 Cleaning tools: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html 4. do a registry clean up, and if you don't have a program to do the job, get one free one here: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/ 5. defrag the hard drive 6. reboot 7. reinstall Nero 6: install package one: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe then install package two: http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Patch_for_NVE3.html reboot and you're good to go! now don't install InCD........Packet writing utilities such as "InCD" are notorious for interfering with burn processes, as the way it works is to continually poll the burner to check for new media. This prevents the burn application gaining exclusive access to the burner, and sense code errors will happen - every time. Get rid of all packet writing utilities. They are more trouble than they are worth. and your Memory is running a little high..... don't multi task and try to shut down some unneeded programs running in the background... I suggest you use a nice little program called Security Task Manager: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/index.html this program shows you what's running on your computer in the background and gives you an explanation of what they are and just hit the remove program to take it out of windows start up! very nice and easy to use.
Ah yes, some good advice i passed on giving from IHoe. The reason is, firmware isn't allways a contributing factor for CD burning, more a DVD thing. As is memory usage, allthough it is bad to have other things running whilst burning, you don't need as much free memory for Cd burning as you do DVD buring. Anyway, get back to us, Tris2000
