Hey, I have an XBOX that my brother dropped off, here's the story: His old disc drive crapped out so he called tech support and this genius among men told him that he needed a new drive and that he would be able to install it himself. So, he bought a new drive (now we realize that it was the less good one of the two available, forget its name) and popped it in yata yata. It worked fine for about 2 hours ago and then, this drive craps out (different problem though I have traced it down to the drive and not the XBOX unit itself). So off he goes to call tech support again and this same genius now refuses to give him help because he opened up the console, ass.... Anyways, what I have discovered is that the drive has trouble (or simply can't) get past this one spot while tracking through the disc (I'm talking about the gears that move the laser not the laser itself). I previously cleaned the lens thoroughly before discovering this, what I need to know is: Is this a common problem, and what are some proposed solutions (if none other I'll eventually disassemble the drive and clean and lubricate all the gears)?
the xbox DVD Drive are crap.....a lot of people have problems with them and thats before they stress it out by playing back-ups...as far as i know there is no fix just get a new one and put it in..
