Hi, I have downloaded a movie of 1.41 GB in the form of avi file. According to "Avi codec", the correct codec for it is "OpenDivx v4". When I tried to play it, there appeared a message as follows :"This file is broken. Seeking will not work correctly. Do you want to repair it?" I clicked on "Repair", and after some while the file has been played. However, after some time, when I tried to play the same file, there appeared again the above mentioned message, and, again, after I clicked on "Repair" the file was played. Well, it's not a big deal to continue that practis, as long as one just wants to play that file from the PC. However, I wish to burn it, and, therefore, my question is how can I correct that file once for ever? Incidentally, I know a there is a free program named Avifixed 2.0 beta 1, that can cause to play partially downloaded avi files, however the avi file I am talking about was completely downloaded. Thanks in advance stibi
Load/drag the file into Avidemux. Set the left menu to 'Copy', 'Copy', 'AVI' then click the 'Save' logo. Give the file a new name (include the extension, e.g., newfile.avi);sometimes this fixes the problem. If the problem persists, change the top left 'Video' from 'Copy' to 'Mpeg-4 XviD' and save the file. This way the file is completely recoded (takes much longer than copying). http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/avidemux.cfm
Before you re-encode it(which will take longer, and reduce the quality some), I would try Avifixed, or Digital Video repair ( http://www.risingresearch.com/en/dvr/ ). You can also try to re-pack it with AvimuxGui
Hi attar and cyprusrom and many thanks for your prompt and helpful responses. I have made 4 copies of the avi file. I have tried to repair the first one with Avidemux, the second with Avifixed, the third with and with AviMux and all those work fine. However, when I tried to repair the fourth one, with Digital Video Repair, there appeared a message that no errors have been found. stibi
