flash update fail

i keep getting flash update fail on my starview Genuine box.
I have used the gtrom loader and the 400genuine crypstar bin file with the null modem cable and followed the instructions word for word but still i get the same message every time!!

Can anyone help please??

 

Are you syre you have a null modem cable ?

Are you using a PC or laptop ?

Have you put the Starvi*w on STANDBY ?

 

Hi thanks for the response, i am using a laptop,with a female to female nine pin cable i bought it on ebay they said it was a null modem. Could it be a serial one instead? its on stanby the clock shows on the box.

yeah double check that cos on fleabay they say rs232 serial null cable but its not a null modem cable db9f to db9f have you got a serial port on your laptop

 

no i dont have a serial port just 1 com and usb. How much are the usb cables coz maplins are like 17€ for a null modem! Daylight robbery!

 

yeah you need usb to rs232 adaptor along with the null modem but m*plins are dear i paid 22 euro but a mate of mine paid 32 so prob fleabay best bet and when you get adaptor make sure you get a disc with it to install it on to your computer and also make sure is on the right com port

Steve if you could get your hands on a PC that has a 9 pin port , it will only take a couple of minutes to do

 

no prob sure this is the normal time you arrive your defo a night owl ,lol

Sorry for posting about this twice promise i won't do it in future.
Was only coz i was goin stir crazy with this.

I do have a 9 pin male port on my laptop and think maybe the 'null modem cable' i bought was maybe just an rs232. How can you tell the difference.
Anyway i got a hold of another 9 pin female to female cable from a gut at work, he said it might be null modem (looks like the one i have). I'll try it an let you know how i get on!

Both the rs232 and the NULL modem cable look the exact same , its the wiring inside thats the difference and its the NULL cable that has crossover config which is what is needed
