Hi guy's I ran into some more problems tonight if you's have any suggestions :)

Basically I was having probs with The box a few days ago when I lost most of the free channels such asthe bbc's,ch4 ect...

I got them back that day by doing a "default key" scan and then changing the codes and I was set.... Then tonight I lost the free channels again so I thought I'd re-flash the box to see if that might help.

I made the mistake of downloading the starview firmware and flashing..... when I set it all back up I got a black screen on the tv....

I then realized my error and downloaded the box firmware which was this >> Thebox_Ireland_H20070705_450eE_api and reflashed....

I then set it all back up and I still get the black screen.

Usually as you know when u turn it on u see the box logo when it boots up.... well I'm just seeing a black screen.

Any suggestions would be appreiciated :)

It's a genuine box and was fully updated before i messed it up :(

Hows u mate :) thanks for the reply.

It won't let me in at all. When I turn the box on from the back.. it just say's "on" in the little screen.

Before I done the dodgy flash it was boot version 7 but as I know little about this by flashing with the wrong firmware prob messed that up too.

If you have a Bad Flash with software have a Read of This might help

If you have a bad flash, switch it off then on at the back & make sure its on standby.
Then Flash as normal. This also applies to flashing (up & downloading) the channel data file.
If for some reason you cannot flash and have set and checked everything else such as ports and connections,
then you should switch off at the back wait a moment then on again. Then try to flash again.

If for some reason it won't go into standby and you see a constant moving green line.
you may want to wait to see if it goes into standby or switches on eventually or re-flash from this state
though it may not work. Some users have reported that flashing an older firmware 1st that was working,
then trying again may help. If your flash has failed or corrupted try again but 1st flash back the firmware
that was on before your failed flash. Re download the firmware just in case you had a corrupted file then try again.
If you do flash from the moving green line state at boot, you will see the % increase on the GTRom loader
software but not on the Starview. Toward the end of the flash you'll see a Flash Burning message in GTRom.
Make sure you wait until all is finished and you see the Download complete pop up message in GTRom.

Another method you can use to recover from a bad flash, eg. the box won't boot to standby and is stuck
in pre standby, either after about 3 or 4 moving green lines the box sticks with the green line not moving
at all or it keeps moving forever. If the box will NOT RE-FLASH as normal from on or standby, try this but it
may take a few goes to work.

Connect the box to the pc with your cable but switch it off at the back. Load the correct
firmware bin file into GTRom & set it to the correct com port, and select App file only then hit Download.
Only then switch on at the back to power on the box. It may take a few sec. so wait at least 30 sec.
(If it doesn't work 1st time try also waiting a couple of sec. to switch on after pressing download in the loader.) It may take more than 1 try to work, but eventually you'll see the loader kick in and the % bar increase. You won't see the % on the Starview though. Only green lines moving left to right. Towards the end of the flash you'll see a message in GTRom saying FLASH BURNING. Then it will reach 100% and wait for the download complete pop up box to appear & the box will reboot back to factory setup. You will have lost any channel data previously on the box & will need to rescan & switch on EMU and set the box up from scratch.

If you don't know the state of the box switch it on see what happens see if there already has been a channel
scan done before-meaning there are channels on it working or not. If so tune to an unencrypted channel as above
    then standby then re-flash.

Well after doing the wrong flash with the starview firmware from the starview folder, I copped what I had done and downloaded Thebox_Ireland_H20070705_450eE_api from the box folder and in the gtrom i left it at app file, box on standby as usual and downloaded it and I'm still getting black screen.

Will I try again ? Is that the correct firmware I used from the box folder would u say ?

    thanks

Hi mate.. no still no luck :(

Firstly I re-flashed it with the firmware and same story... then I done as the guide said, I hit the download button on the rom loader the same time I powered on the box and all the lights flashed across and I saw the flash burning ect... on the gtrom loader so that should have factory reset it...but when I set it up it's the same.. black screen and the box just has "On" on the screen nothing eles.

Is the box fuc*ed altogether do u reckon?

I've checked everything.... but usually when you turn the box on, it will say "on" for a second or 2 and then go onto a channel. This just stays at "on".

It's a strange one alright and a pain.... Is a new box on the horizon do ya's think ?

When "On" is displayed it usually means no channels are installed and you have to continue with installation etc

Ok a few questions to ask you lol

When you run the GT ROM Loader , Have you got your b0x on STANDBY ?

When bin file is transfering , do you see the pop up box "Download Complete" ?

    Have you got Starvi*w1 ot Starvi*w 2 "THE B0X" ?

When you press Menu on the remote , can you do anything now ?

Are you sure you have the Scart in the "TV" connector and your incoming cable in "Cable Input" ?

Hi Celtic thanks for the reply.

Your prob right about no channels installed cause before I flashed it with the wrong firmware I did a factory reset and just powered off the box and then done the flash.

Then I flashed it with the right firmware (I Hope :) and then I done as the guide said and did a factory reset by pesssing download and powere on at same time.

Yes I do have the box on standby when I flash... I do channel dumps all the time so I know a little bit how to flash it, not much though :)

Yes when it's fully flashed it say's download complete and the box's lights go across for a few seconds and it restarts.

I have the starview 2/aka TheBox original... it was already flashed and ready to go when I got it last August.

I can't get to the menue as all i can see is black screen.

Yep i trebled checked that all the cables are secure.

Here's the thing.. it's definitely making contact cause when i have the scart in the "tv" connector and power on the box, it brings it to "EXT 2" no matter what station is on the tv.

Also when I power on the box I can hear the usual start up sound like a bit of static...but after that it's just a black screen.

I've checked cables a good few times and everything seems ok...

Thanks for the dig out guys :)

Thanks for help tonight man, I know it's kinds late lol

Well there is definitely progress made here as I flashed it again as u said and then I added a channel dump...

Now when i power it on it goes onto a channel on the box as in 0001 and....I can hear sound coming thru as in the talking and sound of the programs but still black screen.

I checked the cables again and they seem secure, at present I'm doing an auto scan on my actual tv.

So now I have a box that when turned on goes to a channel number and I can hear sound but no pic...

Definitely progress..but is there still hope :)

    Cheers

Dont doubt it yet , we will get there in the end

Can you access the menu ?

Double check the scart is in the back of the SV in "TV" socket and your incoming cable is in "Cable Input"

Turn the b0x off for a min and turn it back on

When you change channels now , can you see anything on the TV screen

I've checked it, double checked and trebled checkd cables.

I still can't access the menue cause the screen is black and I see "EXT2" in the top of my screen but if I hit menue on the remote the talking/programes stop so it is going to the menue screen but I just can't see it.

I've checked cables changing them around ect.. I can hear the channels changing when i change them on the remote but no pic at all.

I've turned box off 4 awhile and still no pic.

Something is tell me its your scart connections

Did you check the scart going from the SV into the back of your TV is pushed in ?
