just a quick story for those who have concerns over sending their Xbox back to Microsoft, i had an Xbox 30 elite with Hitachi 79fl flashed with 1.51, which red ringed about a week after flashing it

but i sent it in (with the warranty sticker intact) and it was sent back to me with a new jasper chipset (yay) and a liteon drive (boo) all in the same casing (yey?!)

interestingly enough they marked down that the board had failed as well as the dvd drive, even though it had not. which suggests to me that they probably knew it was hacked firmware and changed it, because there was no need to replace the drive too. or not.
but anyway the purpose of this post was just to say that, in at least my case, i sent in an Xbox with hacked firmware and i got a new one in return, for those concerned with returning the console.

I'm sure if they knew your drive had hacked firmware they wouldn't have replaced your XBOX 360 all together. That is a violation of their TOS. Microsoft has been replacing DVD drives with Lite-ONs whether they are faulty or not.

The 83850C is now mainstream. Started coming out of repair centers in Europe and are now showing up in XBOX 360s off the shelves. I just sent a 360 in for repair, I'll find out next week sometime if I get a 83850C.

Yeah, I didn't have an Xbox and had always wanted to flash. So when I read about this last Monday I went out and bought one right away, thankfully it wasn't a 83850C.

    True.
I put a new sticker on a friend of mine's red-ringed, flashed, 360 so he could send it in. He said they sent it back saying that the DVD drive had been altered.
