I'm having a lot of trouble doing this properly. The manual I got with the box suggests using software named dvbup2.14b, but I cannot find that anywhere and the supplier suggested using dreamup software. This worked to a certain extent, insofar as the channels appear on the EPG, but there is no picture or sound. Do I need to upgrade the firmware on the box itself? Do I need to use FTP to do this, and if so, does anyone have a link to the manufacturers site? Do I need to have the box connected to the internet and the tv at the same time to do this? (they are on opposite sides of the room and I'm too lazy to move them unless I really have to. Does anyone know which IP address etc I need to put in? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
solution: null modem cable and dreamup software and a pc with a null modem cable port. no ip stuff required.
Sorry, I should have stated earlier that I have already tried using a null modem cable and dreamup software, but this didn't really work properly. As I said, with this method the channels appear in the EPG, but there is no picture or sound.
Hi You also need an emu and latest keys installed, not just an image. Suggest you google for dreambox forums and read up. jbvid
I don't know what an emu is (outside of it being a long necked bird). Can you tell me what that is, please?
If you really want to get it working just do as I asked you to in my last post, as you are new to this type of box there is a steep learning curve, with a LOT of reading to do on your part, if you can be bothered. Far too much to explain in bits like this. emu is short for emulator. jbvid
Sorry if I came across a bit short earlier in this thread. Anyway, I looked at other forum, but they didn't tell me much. I've updated the firmware and this got me a few channels. Anyway, can you point me in the direction of a good ftp tutorial. I'm having a bit of trouble when it comes to renaming files and moving them and whatnot. Again, any help will be much appreciated.
Sorry for the double post. I can't see a link to edit my previous one. [edit] Just found it. That auto link in my previous post has come in handy. I'll look into that. I have an Ubuntu disc at home and I'll install that on a spare HDD tomorrow, although I suppose the windows software would be just as handy. Still, a good tutorial on linux or windows ftp would be nice.
Hi There is a Linux general discussion section on site, use the Jump To link box at the top of the page. But for detailed DM500 stuff google 'Alsat' register then scroll down to the Eagle section: (Guides & FAQ's) then scroll further down to the (Dreambox Discussions) section and allow yourself and hour or more to digest just some of it. jbvid
