With the fear that this may kill my LiteOn SHW-1635S, i thought i had better double check that all there is to updating the burners firmware is to

    - Download latest firmware (Check)
    - Close all windows applications, virus scans, firewall etc.
    - Click on .exe file and follow instructions
    - Reboot after all is done

Is that all there is to it?

    Thanks!

This may not be necessary with yours but better read the instructions on the manufacturer's website for your particular burner !

Most firmware update on burners are done [bold]AFTER[/bold] you have move the burner to your [bold]Secondary channel as a master[/bold] with [bold]NOTHING[/bold] connected to the secondary !

Ok, sounds good. Is there a good website that has detailed instructions on how to do it?

    Thanks for your time.

first thing first... you are in the wrong forum for this type question.
    second, try this link...

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

select the last number YSOV thats the latest version for your burner.

MAKE SURE there is nothing in the drive, the power will not go out (you know, dont do it in a lightning storm kinda stuff)
click the YSOV, download the .rar file, you will need something like winrar to open it, then follow the instructions.. its realy simple, make sure you select YOUR/THAT drive.... and click ok, it only takes like a minute to update...
very easy... may require a re boot, then your set..

    let me know.

All done, no worries... no where as scary as flashing the bios :)

Thanks very much again for instilling the confidence in me to do it!
