try not to talk about pirating games here. Its not allowed. edit: dvd-r and dvd+r makes a difference. we need more info about your ps2 version, what type of dvd you use (- or +) and what brand you use. I think this is all that we need to know.
SORRY AS I SAID COMPLETE BEGINNER. I USED A PHILIPS DVD + R 8X. PS2 VERSION SCPH-39003. WONT HAPPEN AGAIN CHEERS

See, you catch on fast! (we newbies have to stick together) It's well worth reading & following the rules here. These people know what they are talking about and are very willing to help. I've learned a tremendous amount just from lurking here. And from what I can see, if you (nicely) ask a (detailed) question, you will always get a helpful response. Joe D.
jools05, try searching the forums for a link to find out what your ps2 version is, i.e. version 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. If you cant find it in the forums, try googling it.
i believe that versions 1-3 have problems reading dvd+r. on some occasions they read them, but most likely they dont. Try dvd-r, but im not sure if this is your only problem. Can anyone else suggest something else?
successfully backed up my euro 2004 and splinter cell 2 tonight using philips dvd r +.fluke or not it defo worked. i have a ps2 version 3. cant talk now have gaming to do yeeha!
cool, good job. Well I have a version 2, and i play dvd-/+ r well too. Actually, +r works better for me, it seems to load up faster after I change discs with the smd's. anyways, have fun.
since it is an older ps2, try opening up and cleaning the laser with a q-tip and sum rbbing alcohol nd adjusting it a little
