I've always been to these forums gathering info and finally decided to get the flip top based on a few reviews. Just thought I had an obligation to report my findings for all of you that are skeptical of them. After a 30 minute install, only tools needed was a phillips and a flat head screw driver, an extra screw laying around the house, and some scotch tape. I have only tried one disk but it worked like a charm. No trouble at all. I backed up my copy of GTA vice city. I have the new HP 300i burner. I use fugifilm dvd+r's - the rw's appear to not work. i used DVD Decrypter to rip the dvd to an ISO file. Then used the same program to burn the disc and an instant backup in 30 minutes. 10min to rip about 20 to burn. Very simple process and don't need soldering experience. I am not an affiliate of the people that make the flip top cover, just a customer that is so far, very satisfied. I will continue to update the disks I have successfully backedup. Thanks to all for the info. Anyone has any questions, just let me know.
Hmm, I've never heard of anyone using dvd decrypter for ps2 games, since it's intent is for movies, but hey if it works cool!
I use DVD Decrypter for both movies and games. When you rip your original game to an iso file, then burn the iso file to a dvd in one program it just doesnt get any easier.
Have backed up successfully - GTA VC NHL 2001 SSX Madden 2003 - also plays online with no probs. ShadowMan 2 Lord of the Rings - The 2 Towers NHL2K3 Top Gear Dare Devil The Sims will continue to update this list almost daily Fliptops are so sweet
Do you have Dues Ex or Max Payne. Try those using a backup and see if it continues to work after the intro. I have been trying to get someone to test these on a Flip top. I don't think they will work.
i will have them shortly im sure. At least max payne i'll let you know do you have a flip top or a mod chip?
I have done at least 12 Flip Top's. I'm doing it in about 15 minutes. The hardest part if any is trying to keep the ribbon cable for the reset/eject button from being pinched when closing the case. I use 6x3/8" metal pan had screws from Lowes.(22 for under $2) I have used DVD Decryptor to Rip and Burn. I for some reason prefer Record Now and choose data then build Global Image. I have backed up successfully: NBA LIVE 2003,NBA 2K3,MORTAL KOMBAT DA,SOCOM US NAVY SEALS,CONFLICT DESSERT STORM,MADDEN NFL 2002,TEKKEN 4,TEST DRIVE,BATMAN VENGEANCE,MLB SLUGFEST 2003,NFL 2K3, GTA 3, STAR WARS THE CLONE WARS,RATCHET & CLANK,KINGDOM HEARTS. I let my 7 and 5 year olds play the backups not the originals. (-:
the only one im having problems with so far is shadow man 2. I have tried different cd-r brands and i get a blue border when it swap it and it tries to load but won't.
Can you tell me where you got your flip to from?? and can you also give me your aim if possible thanks

Have not tried it yet. I worked all weekend and havent had a lot of time. Hopefully this week I can get to more backups and i will continue to update my list. If anyone has shadow Man 2,I would like to see if someone can get that one to go. I can get it to load but it freezes.

i love my flip top cover. Much better than the no-solder chip. I use nero to image the discs and also to burn. it costs more than the no-solder chip, but i had a chip smoke two ps2's. it may have been just a bad chip, not sure, it was drawing alot of current at the tray motor and i think i just popped fuses on the board. but i couldn't wait so i got my flip top cover and now i'll never use or recommend to anyone the use of a no-solder chip. In answer to a post above - i have successfully backed-up max payne with nero. no problems. feel free to msg me if any help is needed.
I tried nero to backup shadowman 2 and it worked. So now i think i may stick to nero. I will be testing with that more. Nero = 1/1 DVD Decrypter = 3/4
---elljay55 I just used nero and choose image recorder as the drive and had it read at 2x. after it saved the image to the drive i just choose my dvd-r burner as the recorder then burnt it at 1x
it's weird but when i first put in the no-solder chip I coulde boot any dVD-RW just fine, then one day it just stopped and i haven't been able to do it since so i stopped trying.
I'm starting to see a lot of people having problems with online play and mod chips. With a fliptop cover...they have no idea your playing a backup.... I love this thing!
