    Hey

i know floppy drives are retro and not used but its still in my pc all the same, and its just started to go crazy ,... the light is constantly on even when theres no disk in and when there is a disk in it doesnt read it,

The power cable is plugged it but has been taken out recently and out back but its defo in right...

The IDE cable is plugged in correctly at both ends, and none of these have been altered since it last worked

And its installed on the bios

any help would be great as i use the floppy drive when im formatting my hard drive to reinstall the new operating system.

    Cheers in advance

    Replace it!

Try this but I think that the drive has gone out. Unplug the cable and power supply from the back of the floppy. Turn on the computer and go to the Device Manager.

The Device Manager is located when you right click My Computer. Highlight the floppy that is located there and tell it to remove. Don't worry when you restart your machine it will recognize the new hardware and install the driver for it.

That happened to another machine I was working on. I just switched the drive. It only cost a little over 10 bucks for a new one.

Oakley28, is not an ide cable as ide is 40 pin & floppy is 34 pin. reseat the cable or replace the cable.
