For Xmas i recieved the Belkin Tunecast II.. Needless to say it sucks. So, I will return that to the store..

I've been debating on which one to get to replace it though.
A friend has the Monster cable, from the few times i've heard it it sounds good, no static or anything. Theres 2 models the regular and the Plus, The Plus looks like you can tune in multiple stations rather then just the few on the regular one.

Anyone else have any suggestions on a transmitter?

The monster cable isn't even an fm transmitter.

If you want a suggestion for a good fm transmitter, the one I have (really good, had it for 2 months) is the griffin FM transmitter.

It is very good quality and I get a nice, crisp sound :)

    FMI, have a look here:

Apologies. Because you stated 'monster cable', I thought you just meant the normal Monster Cable.

The monster car cable is better if you only intend to use it in your car.

However, If you intend to use it on many FM radios, then the iTrip is probably your best bet, Griffin at that ;)

    Good Luck

How does the Itrip workout on the battery life?
The main reason I really want a transmitter is for me driving back and forth to college, which is about 3 hours away. I heard the Itrip absolutely kills it, I'm not sure if this is the truth or not.
How many different stations can it tune into?

As far as Plug-ins go, which would you reccomend/

Oh yeah, and I forgot to add..
I did pick up an Itrip at work today, but was unable to use it because I have the ipod video, On the top of it, It just has a headphone jack, no outlet for that little chip that is supposed to plug in.

It is true, the iTrip does really deplete the battery life ~ that's the only downside to it :(.

The iTrip you picked up from work is obviously the incorrect one ~ maybe it is for the 4g iPod. Unfortunately, there is a different one for pretty much every model :(

The iTrip or monster cable are about as good as it gets as far as plugins go IMO. There are others like voice recorder, mem. card reader, remote control etc, but they aren't really worth the money.

STROS.....HOLD THE PHONE... BACK THE HORSE UP !!!! Don't get rid of that Belkin. Here is a "MOD" that you can do to your Belkin FM Transmitter that will boost it's transmission to up to 100 yards or better. Trust me ...it DOES work.
There are actually 2 ways to do this, I will tell you the easiest with the least worry of damage to your unit....
    1. the small cable that comes from the unit and plugs into your ear jack has 3 wires in it plus a ground shield. This ground shield is NOT incased in wire coating like the other wires are, so be extreamly careful when doing this.
NOTE: THIS MOD WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY:
    2. VERY gingerly, about in the middle of your cable, take a sharp knife and very slowly, cut into the outer skin of the main cable.. be sure not to cut too deep , or you will cut the wires inside. Peel back the skin and you will reveal the wires inside. spread apart the ground-copper wire and look for the BLUE coloured wire. THIS wire is actually attached to the ANTENNA portion on the chipped board located in your unit. Cut the wire, allowing yourself to trim the portion of the end to reveal the wire inside. You want to do this on the wire that goes back into the unit. In otherwords , cut some of the wire cover off so that you will have about a half inck of wire exposed on the end of the blue wire.
    3. NOW, get some ordinary speaker wire ( lampcord) and cut it 2 feet 9 1/4 inches long. Fray one end of this speaker wire and twist the two ends together so you now have the blue wire coming from the unit, connected to this piece of wire. Tape them up and then tape up the main wire to cove all the other wires...This will give you the added wavelength needed to extend your transmitting range MUCH further.
This does work as I use it for my Christmas display to allow passerbys to watch the display and listen to the music on their car radios as the lights move in sync with the music. And the range is at least 100 yds. NOT bad for a little mod with a small piece of wire.
    Season Greetings.

I just picked up the Monster Plus.
Works pretty decent, Theres a little static, but can be tuned out by changing stations, Just gotta find the right one. Yesterday I was having a high pitch whine come through some of the stations I was trying to tune to, but it was raining very heavily while i was driving, so I'm not sure if maybe that had something to do with it or not, I bought mine off ebay from a pretty reputable seller for about $58 shipped I believe. Which is a really good price.

Hey goaler, on step 3 do you connect the exposed part of the blue wire to one end of the speaker wire? And if so where does the other end of the speaker wire connect, any where? Or does the other end of the speaker wire stay free (unconnected to anything)?

OK, basically , what you are doing is cutting the blue wire. Leave yourself enough room to trim back some of the cover to expose the end of the wire that goes BACK into the unit. now join the speaker wire to that end then tape it up..... now , just let it hang... that's all you need. If you have your computer or Ipod that you connect the FM transmitter to in a place that won't be moved, just connect the transmitter and lay out the wire on a table. What I do is I have mine connected to the computer then I just tape the end of the wire up on the wall. I find that I get better distance if the wire is up and down as opped to just laying it accross the floor or table. Hope this helps.
