I unfortunately have a Panasonic DVD recorder E85H. May God be my witness it will be the last Panasonic product I EVER buy. My DVD recorder went on the blink 17 months from when I bought it. I take it into a Panasonic repairer and he says the HDD has had it and needs replacing. A$465 for an 80 Gig HDD and A$150 labour. Now I took the lid off the unit and it's a Maxtor HDD, the same as in a computer worth about $80.00 So I figure if I can get another 80 gig HDD and format it correctly, I can cut out the A$600+ it's going to cost to fix. My question is, can anyone tell me how you format the HDD correctly so I will work in the DVD recorder unit
I just took the old one out, put the new one in, turned it on and it will the machine will take over and you follow the directions.
Thanks for that. Did you use a like size HDD ie 80GB for 80GB and was it the same brand? Many thaks for your help
Actually, I had a smaller one which I removed from one of my Tivo's when I put a larger one in the Tivo. Since all you are doing is formating it, I think you could match the size, use a smaller, or use a larger one. If you put in a larger one, let me know what happens.
