I've been using both of above to encode MP3's in VBR. I notice that with MMJB, the encoder seems to mess up the song length. EAC with LAME encodes MP3's with the correct song length. The MMJB problem is most troublesome when using the MP3's in a WinPod.

What is the problem with the MMJB/Fraunhofer combination that cuases this?

This is just speculative guessing, but perhaps FhG VBR doesn't equip the .mp3 file with the so called 'XING VBR header", which LAME does. The song length actually is correct, but the player displays a wrong time.

LAME VBR is better out of these two. Certain versions of FhG Fast Codec (MMJB, Nero, many others) are also buggy and the sound quality actually decreses if 'highest quality'-mode is used. I can't remember was this VBR or CBR mode only issue though.

Thanks for the reply. You confirm what I suspect as well.
