I use this free program and accidentally turned it off. I can't start it again or update to the latest version. The error message says it is running but I have no icons or dialog boxes. The author's support page is under construction.

See if there is still a folder under Program Files. If so, there should be an executable in it, run it to see if it works and if so, create shortcut on the desktop to run from there.

Since it is still running you might try killing it via Task Manager first too.

    Dizzyduck,

When I try and run it from the folder, I get a message that says it's already running. That's my problem; it's running.

    Locoeng,

It doesn't show up in the Task Manager.

Thanks to both of you. Any other ideas?

    Try this:

    1. Start > Run > "cmd.exe" (no "")

    2. type "net start" (again, no "")

    3. find the listed process and type "net stop [process name]" (no "", you get the jist)

    See if that helps.

The service FreeRAM XP Pro.exe does not exist. Any more ideas? do I have a problem in the registry? I ask this because whenever Firefox tries to install an update, I get an error message saying that I have to shut down any programs using it. I always stop everything I can before an update.

    Thanks.

Try running a reg cleaner and de-fragging your hdd.

Defrag permitted me to get rid of one executable but would not let me delete the other. Looks like I'm going to have to reload Windows and I'm not looking forward to it. Does anyone have any other ideas?

You used Windows De-frag tool? That's no good at all, try a trial version of O&O Pro :)
