1st I'd like to start by saying that this site is the best DVD site!! I have found everything I needed to know by browsing the forums. I am having a problem with my back up DVDs freezing up during playback. I am using a Sony dual layer burner, I have a Sony DVD player and I am using either Maxell or Sony single layer media (+R). I am using either DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink. What could be the problem? PLEASE HELP Thanks
Try using different media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. (Or use media that your DVD burner recommends you use due to compatibility) Make sure your DVD burners firmware is up to date. Burn the media at 4X or half the rated speed of the media. If it is 4x or 8x burn at 4x if it is 16x burn at 8x. Booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM if possible. Set output size of DVD to 4360 in DVD Shrink so it does not burn close to the edge of the media. Do not multi-task during burn or Transcoding/encoding of the DVD. Just a few tips for you to try to make a better backup.
Thanks for everyhing Larry. I was just wondering what you mean by "Booktype DVD+R media to DVD-ROM if possible." I made the changes in DVD Shrink that you suggested. I was using the Maxell media when I 1st got the burner then I read the bad reviews. I could not find any Verbatim DVDs anywhere other then online so I figured Sony media must work with a Sony burner (guess not). Also where do I find the codes on the DVD?
Below are a few images for you to look at on how to do some of the things you have asked to do using IMGBurn Which you can get at http://www.imgburn.com/ it is freeware so it does not cost anything. Booktyping DVD+R media to DVD-ROM How to find the Model# and Firmware# of your DVD burner. Find the Manufacture ID# of the media you are using (Insert a blank DVD) Then run IMGBurn Once you find the ID number go to the guide linked below to see where that media is listed. They recommend you use Class1 media for Video. If it is Class2 or lower then it is recommended to buy better media. (Media that is most compatible with your DVD Burner get that info from the manufactures site) Media Guide... http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm As you can see my media is TYGO2 which is 1st class media.
Thanks again Larry. I got ImgBurn and my sony is not listed to change booktype. But I did find that my Sony media is 1st class and my old Maxells are 2nd. I took a look at the DVD that i just burned (click) and I can see along the outer edge of the burn (not the disc) there is like a half circle that jets into the burned area. I am assuming this is the problem with this burn. I don't know I am gonna try to do it again once I get the original back. I am going to assume that my problem lies with the media i am using.
