I really hate starting new threads for something like this but i have search far and wide looking for an answer with no success. SO here is goes, I had a few nasty popup viruses and just other garbage on my pc so i formated the old HD and reinstalled windows. I am trying to back up some DVDs i own but for some reason i cant get the ACTUAL ORIGINAL DVD to play on my computer. Every time, what ever playing i am using, either crashes and closes out, or i get an error and the program closes. I own a genuine version of PowerDVD 5 that came with my burner. I also have a full working version of nero 7 ultimate whatever. I also have TMPGenc Express 4 installed cause i use that for editing. I cannot figure out why i am not able to play dvds. I have the latest firmware installed on my burner. it is a LITEON SOHW 1693S. one thing i notice was when i ran DVD Shrink it will show the video preview when opening a disc and backing up. but when i try to play a video file i only get sound. Please help me before my head explodes. and i appologize in advance for any poor spelling and grammar.
XP (and Windows Media Player) do not come with a MPEG2 decoder (DVD Decoder). If you want to use the likes of WMP to play a DVD you have to purchase a decoder. However, free software (like VLC or Media Player Classic) give this capability. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
I reformatted recently too. Get FFDShow. My WMP plays them, although I'm having sound playback issues. Thats probably a setting I could tweak, though I'm too lazy to piss with it yet.
Yeah but heres the problem. Why is the DVD software i have used before that was working. no longer works.
Ok I was able to get the latest version of Power DVD 7. now i can load my dvds but now i get no picture just sound. Am i missing a setting or something?
